It is recommended to hide or archive or hide courses when they are no longer available rather than deleting them. That's because when you delete a course, you delete all the information associated with the course, including grades, certificates of completion, and its history.
By default, a regular instructor can't archive a course. To archive a course, you need to have Administrator permissions.
To archive a course:
- Go to Site Administration > Courses > Add/edit courses
- Click the course category or use the "Search courses" text box to find the course you want to archive
- Click the eye icon to the right of the course's name to archive it
To archive multiple courses at the same time:
- Creating a new category. You can name it "Archives".
- Click on the eye icon to the right of the category's name to archive it
- Select and move the "about to be archived" courses to the "Archives" category. The courses in the archived / hidden category are automatically archived. You do not need to click on the eye icon next to each course.

Step-by-step Guide
To hide a course:
- Find the course in question using the course catalogue or search tool
- Once in the course, click on Course administration > Edit settings
- Change the "Course visibility" to "Hide"
- You may make a course visible by setting the same field to "Show"
- Click on the save button at the bottom of the page.
Important Notes
- If you need to hide many courses at the same, you may want to contact a Course Creator or System Administrator. They have the ability to hide a category of courses, which effectively hides the courses in it.
- If the course is meant to be permanently hidden, it should be removed from the programs that reference it. All courses in a program, whether they are hidden or not, need to be completed in order to receive a program learning record / transcript. (Because courses can be hidden for various reasons, the system will not automatically remove them from programs when they are hidden.)
