System Administrators can delete categories of courses. Needless to say, deleting categories can result in deleting all sub-categories and courses within the category being deleted.

Step-by-step Guide

To delete a category:

  1. Go to Site Administration > Courses > Manage Courses and Categories
  2. Click on the "Actions" icon (cogwheel) next to the category in question and select "Delete"
  3. If the category has sub-categories and courses, you will be prompted where you want to move the content. Specify the category you want to move the content to using the "Move into" field.
    1. If you want to permanently delete all the content in the category, select "Delete all - cannot be undone" in the "What do do?" field. It's important to understand that if you choose to delete the content, the deletion is permanent. The content will not end up in any sort of recycle bin and cannot be recovered.
  4. Click on the "Delete" button at the bottom of the page
