Deprecating Adobe Flash Course

Deprecating Adobe Flash Course

Problem

At the end of 2020, browsers have deprecated Adobe Flash, as this product has been known to have security vulnerabilities. With no support for Flash in your browser, any SCORM content that was written in Flash as opposed to HTML5 will no longer work, and will need to be rewritten or reconfigured to support HTML5.

Some symptoms of Flash related problems are:

  • Browser prompting to download .swf files

  • Browser displaying a blank screen instead of the module

  • Browser displaying a "Plugin Blocked" popup or message

The timelines for Flash support are as follows for each modern browser:

Google Chrome: https://www.blog.google/products/chrome/saying-goodbye-flash-chrome/

Mozilla Firefox: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Plugins/Roadmap

Internet Explorer/Edge: https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2019/08/30/update-removing-flash-microsoft-edge-internet-explorer/

Solution

In order to ensure access to your content, we recommend reviewing all of your courses to ensure they are HTML5 compliant.
