Playing Files with Audio in Chrome 66 and Later

Problem

Google Chrome no longer allows videos with audio to autoplay in Chrome 66+. As a result, you may no longer be able to hear audio when a course automatically launches. You will need to pause and resume the training to prompt audio to return.

Solution

You can work around Chrome's new behaviour by not adding a audio on the first slide of your SCORM package and using a clickable element (e.g. a "next" or "play" button) to take users to the next slide that contains audio.

Alternatively, if you don't want to edit your SCORM packages, you can ask your organization's IT administrator to review Chrome's configure policies and settings to help set these new autoplay related enterprise policies:

  • The "AutoplayAllowed" policy controls whether autoplay is allowed or not.

  • The "AutoplayWhitelist" policy allows you to specify a whitelist of URL patterns where autoplay will always be enabled.
