The introduction of site-level certificates of completion eliminates the need to add a certificate of completion in each course. If you're been using course-level certificates (e.g. a Simple Certificate activity in a course), you can convert this certificate to a site-level certificate in about 30 seconds.

Step-by-step Guide

To convert a course-level certificate to a site-level certificate

  1. Go to the certificate in question (in the course that already has a certificate)
  2. Go to Certificate Administration > Backup
    1. If you do not see "Certificate Administration", you did not go to the certificate in question in step 1 above
  3. In the "Backup settings", unselect everything with the exception of "Include activities & resources"
  4. Click on the "Jump to final step" button
  5. Click on the "Continue" button
  6. In the "User private backup area", click on the "Restore" button next to the file in question
    1. There may be only 1 file, but if there are more than 1, the first file in the list with the most recent time is most likely the file that you just backed up in the earlier step
  7. Click on the "Continue" button
  8. When asked to select a course, select the "Site", which is generally the first option in the list of courses
    1. The name will vary from system to system, but it's generally the name of your system
  9. Click on the "Continue" button
  10. Click on the "Next" button
  11. Click on the "Next" button (again)
  12. Click on the "Perform restore" button
  13. Click on the "Continue" button

The site-level certificate is now available and can be added to courses.
