When a course is recurring (e.g. the learning record expires after a year), it is possible to define a recertification window (i.e. a specific period during which individuals who hold a certification must meet certain requirements to renew or maintain their certification).

Step-by-step Guide

To specify a recertification window.

  1. Go to the course in question

  2. Go to Course Administration > Course Settings

  3. Expand the "Certification and Expiration" section

  4. Set the “Expiration” field to a value that indicates the learning record will expire.

    1. The value “Expire the learning record after” option allows you to specify an expiration on lapse time. You can specify the time in days, months or years.

    2. The value “Expire the learning record on” option allows you to select a precise date, like “December 31st” for example. You can also specify if the expiration is every year, every 2nd year, every 3rd year, and so on.

  5. Set the “Recertification” field.

    1. The value “Users can get recertified anytime” means that when a user completes a course, they will be able to get recertified again and again, as often as they want and whenever they want. This is essentially how the learning environment worked in release 4.1.10 and earlier releases.

    2. The value “Users can get recertified” allows you to specify when the user can get recertified counting backwards from their next due date. The blue box immediately below the gives you a clear indicate of the exact date / time when the user will be able to get recertified based on your configuration in the course.

  6. Click on the "Save changes" button

Important Notes

  • Changing the “Expiration” setting only affects future learning records. It does not affect the expiration date of previously issued learning records. To modify previous learning records, see Updating Learning Records After Changing Course Completion Settings

  • Changing the “Recertification” setting affects both past and future learning records. In other words, if you set a recertification window on a course that previously did not have one, all users, regardless of when they completed the course, will now be subject to the recertification window you specified.
