What is the HCE

The "Healthcare Edition", or "HCE" for short, is a custom implementation of Moodle, the world's most popular learning management system, enhanced by Dual Code to meet the needs of the healthcare sector, including hospitals, long-term care homes, healthcare agencies and professional associations. It gives you all the benefits of open-source software while providing you with the performance, scalability, and robustness you'd expect from an enterprise solution. It can interface to other operational and business support systems commonly found in hospitals and other healthcare organizations, including Active Directory, Roche Diagnostic's cobas IT 1000 & cobas Infinity, HCM / HRIS solutions, and numerous other systems.

The HCE comprises four key components, all integrated in one product available to you as a subscription-based service:

  1. An award-winning learning management system (LMS)

  2. An AI-driven Learning Experience Platform (LXP)

  3. An innovative web conferencing system (WCS)

  4. An ERES compliant learning record store (LRS)

The Healthcare Edition provides you with many benefits, notably the ability to:

  • Customize the look and feel of your learning environment without any involvement from Dual Code

  • Add and manage learners, including physicians, nurses, medical students, volunteers, and other healthcare workers

  • Add and manage courses, activities and resources

  • Define learning plans and automatically assign them to learners based on their role, department or other criteria

  • View statistics and reports on compliance

  • Interface with other systems such as Active Directory, UKG, Microsoft Power BI, Roche Diagnostic's cobas IT 1000 & cobas Infinity, HRIS solutions, and numerous other systems

  • Access training material designed and developed by some of Canada's largest research hospitals and healthcare organizations via the OCI Marketplace

  • Empower users to fully leverage the Learning Experience Platform (LXP) and connect the OCI to seamlessly access to a wide range of courses tailored to their professional needs

The HCE is now used by more than 1,000 healthcare sites across Canada serving over 1 million healthcare workers.
