To add a new category of courses, you must have System Administrator permissions. Once added, the category will automatically appear in the top menu under Course Catalogue > By format if and only if it contains courses visible to learners. In other words, categories that are empty are not displayed in the course catalogue.

Step-by-step Guide

To add a category of courses:

  1. Go to Site Administration > Courses > Add a category
  2. Specify the parent category for the new category you are about to create
  3. Give the new category a name
  4. Optionally give the category and ID Number and Description
  5. Click on the "Create category" button at the bottom of the page
