This check help System Administrators efficiently manage high volumes of assignment submissions. It generate a consolidated list of unreviewed or ungraded submissions for both the Assignment and Supporting Documentation activities across all courses. The list includes direct links to each submission, making it easier for System Administrators to review, approve, and grade submissions.
Issue
It is crucial to have timely warnings when submissions for the Assignment or Supporting Documentation activities are left unreviewed by an instructor. These activities often serve as proof of course completion or compliance, and delays in reviewing or grading can hold back learners from progressing in their courses or receiving necessary certifications. Unreviewed submissions can create bottlenecks in the learning process, resulting in frustration for both learners and administrators who depend on timely feedback to maintain smooth course operations.
Additionally, without proper warnings, administrators and instructors may overlook critical assignments, especially in high-volume environments where the number of submissions can be overwhelming. By receiving alerts when submissions are pending review, institutions can ensure that no work goes unnoticed and that learners receive feedback promptly, contributing to an efficient and responsive learning experience.
Solution
The solution to the issue of unreviewed submissions introduces a new health check called "Submissions," which is a context-aware report available through the System Health report under Site Administration > System Health.
This report provides a comprehensive view of ungraded or unapproved submissions for both Assignment and Supporting Documentation activities. It includes direct links to each course, user, activity, and action, allowing for easy navigation to the relevant submissions.
The health check monitors outstanding submissions and sends notifications to System Administrators when the status reaches "Warning" or "Critical." By default, notifications are triggered when there are 7 or more pending submissions.
