Course Prerequisites

Instructors can now define prerequisites for courses. When a prerequisite course is set, the user must complete the prerequisite course(s) before they can self-enrol in the course. Please note that prerequisites only apply to the self-enrollment method. An instructor or administrator can still manually enrol users in courses, therefore bypassing the prerequisites. Furthermore, if a program is set to automatically enroll users in courses, users will be enrolled even if they have not yet completed the prerequisite courses.

To define prerequisites for a course:

  1. Go to the course in question

  2. Go to Course Administration > Course Completion

  3. In the "Condition: Completion of Other Courses" section

    1. Select the prerequisite course(s) in the "Courses available" multi-select box. Note that if the course you are looking for does not appear in this list, it's because you have not set the course completion criteria on it.

    2. If you are selecting more than 1 course in step A above, select "All" or "Any" in the "Condition requires" pulldown menu

    3. Enable the "Restrict enrollment" checkbox. Note that if you not enable this checkbox, users will still be able to self-enrol in the course and complete all of the activities, but they will not be able to technically complete the course unless the prerequisites are also complete
