Adding a Course

Adding a Course

A course is essentially an empty shell meant to contain learning activities and resources. Once a course has been created, you need to add activities and resources as a second step.

By default, a regular instructor can't add a course. To add a new course, you need to have Administrator or Course Creator permissions. If you do not have those permissions yourself, ask your administrator to create the course on your behalf and then make you the instructor for this course.

Step-by-step Guide

To add a course:

  1. Go to Site Administration > Courses > Add a new course

  2. Fill out the web form to specify the settings of the course

    1. If this is your first time adding a course, you may want to click on the blue ? icon next to each field to better understand the purpose of each field.

  3. Click on the "Save and display" button

Important Notes

  • You will automatically be assigned the role of Instructor for the course you create (but are not automatically the instructor for courses created by other users).

  • If you are assigned the role of Course Creator in the context of a course category (e.g. you are a Course Creator in the "Online" category only), then you must navigate to that category in order to create courses. You will not see the Site Administration > Courses > Add a new course option in the Administration tree.
