Notifying Learners About Upcoming Mandatory Training
When a course is assigned to learners via programs, the course is deemed to be mandatory. (Inversely, when a course is assigned outside of a program using another enrollment method, the course is deemed to be optional and therefore is not being tracked by the system's Compliance Overview .) Because it's important for learners to complete their mandatory training on time, the learning environment by default sends reminders to learners whenever a deadline for mandatory training is approaching (or overdue).
This capability should already be enabled by default on your system. But it is possible to disable it (or re-enable it if an administrator previously disabled it) or change the frequency of the notifications.
Step-by-step Guide
To send disable or re-enable the learner notifications:
Go the Site Administration > System Configuration
Go to the “Learning management” tab
In the "Programs" section, select the frequency for the learner notifications
Selecting “Never” means that notifications will not be sent. You can still however send custom notifications on a per program basis if you prefer as per this article.
Important Notes
Notifications are only sent if the mandatory courses are coming due or overdue. If all mandatory training is complete, a notification will not be sent to the learner.
The notifications can be changed at the system level using the Language Customizations.
Alternatively, if you want to change the message for a single program, you can customize it directly in the program as per this article.
Notifications can also be sent to supervisors as well as additional recipients using the same web page.
