Displaying the "Sign up" Link in the Course Description

Problem

When viewing a course in the catalogue that contains face-to-face sessions, the catalogue will display the upcoming sessions, but the "Sign up" link won't appear. Users are forced to enrol in the course prior to selecting a session.

Reason

When displaying an instructor-led course in the catalogue, it's possible to display the list of upcoming sessions. This is explained in the Displaying F2F Sessions in Course Descriptions article. Generally speaking, a "Sign up" link next to each session should appear, thereby allowing users to pick the session they want to attend as they sign up. However, it's possible that the link does not appear.

  1. The link will not appear if there are more than one (1) self-enrollment method being presented to the user. If there are different enrolment options, the learning environment will not know which method to use when the user clicks on "Sign up" and therefore, the “Sign up” link is hidden. Users can still self-register, but they will have to click on one of the enrolment buttons at the bottom of the self-registration page to enrol, and once enroled, they will be required to select a session.

  2. The “Self-enrolment (Advanced)” method will only display the “Sign up” link if the course is free. If payment is required, the user will have to enrol using the “Purchase” button at the bottom of the self-registration page, and once enroled, they will be required to select a session. (This limitation will be resolved in an upcoming release.)

Solution

To display a "Sign up" link in the course catalogue next to each face-to-face session.

  1. Make sure there is one and only one self-enrolment method for the course in question

  2. If you have more than one (1) self-enrolment method in the course, consider either enabling the "Show first self enrolment option only" setting or Restricting Enrollment to Specific Cohorts.
